Atlantic Mine
Clarence A. Marttila, 73, a resident of Atlantic Mine passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014. He was born January 23, 1941, in Redridge, Michigan, son of John Arthur and Impi (Tikkanen) Marttila. He graduated from Houghton High School with the class of 1958. He attended Michigan Tech and worked at the Freda Mill before serving in the United States Army for two years. He worked for the Ontonagon County Rural Electrification Association for 33 years as a lineman, retiring in 1999. On May 6, 1967 he was united in marriage to Joanne (Hendrickson). The couple resided in Atlantic Mine.
Clarence was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Hancock. Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother Sanfrid, his twin brother Clemence, and his sister Linda Paananen.
He is survived by his wife Joanne, four sons: Paul (Brenda) of Atlantic Mine; Eric (Judy) of Goodrich, Michigan; Evan (Dawn) of Battle Ground, WA; and Jonathan of Atlantic Mine, three daughters: Christine of Hancock; Debbie (Christer) Peltomaa of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania; and Rachel (Jerry) Homola of Lake Norden, South Dakota, one brother Walter (Darlene) of Calumet, two uncles: Leo and Ray (Juliana), three aunts: Hannah Lupan, Liala Evans, and Evelyn Kivi, 19 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services for Clarence will be held at 11 am Friday, January 2, 2015, at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock with Ronald Jouppe to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Liminga Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, January 1, 2015 from 5 to 8 pm at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock and on Friday from 10 am until the time of services at the church.
